ADVANCED ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

HGHS’ advanced academic programs are developed to afford our students the opportunity to earn college credits, free of charge. Students can earn many credits towards their college degree, if post graduate plans fit, towards a major of their choosing. The programs offer flexibility in the way students can earn their college credits.

AP Facts

  • Over 90% of colleges and universities grant credit or placement to students for qualifying AP Examination grades.
  • A 1998 ETS study concluded that students with qualifying grades of 3 or above on AP Exams earn higher grades in advanced college courses.
  • Students who enroll in the AP Program in high school are already exposed to college-level work when they enroll in college and hence are better prepared for serious academic work.
  • Studies show that many students who take the AP Exams graduate in four years or less with a grade point average of 3.0 or better.
  • Since its inception in 1955, the AP Program has provided motivated high school students with the opportunity to take college-level courses in a high school setting.
  • In addition to gaining college-level skills, students who participate in the AP Program often earn college credit while they are still in high school. This translates into saving money that would have been used on tuition and having the opportunity to graduate in less time than the traditional four years.
  • AP courses are taught by dedicated and enthusiastic teachers who follow course guidelines developed and published by the College Board.
