Academy of Arts and Entertainment
The Academy of Arts and Entertainment offers a challenging curriculum designed to meet the needs of the students interested in the performing and visual arts. HGHS engages its students through a variety of classes offered to nurture their talent in dance, music, theater, and the visual arts. Graduates of the Academy of Arts and Entertainment are prepared for entrance into leading colleges and universities or they may choose to immediately enter their respective professional field.
Academy of Hospitality and Tourism
The AOHT will provide a small learning community where students will learn the technical and soft skills necessary for success in the hospitality and tourism industry while providing students with the team building, interpersonal, problem solving, and communication skills that will allow them to work in the industry or develop entrepreneurial skills to begin their own business. As a gateway to the Americas, and with an emerging relationship with Asian countries, South Florida offers extraordinary opportunities in the world of hospitality and tourism. Our AOHT will offer courses helping our students become more marketable.
Academy of Biomedical Sciences
The Academy of Biomedical Sciences is designed to give students an overview of the healthcare industry and insight into the healthcare provider’s role. Students will learn the medical skills and training necessary to succeed in post-secondary career education and/or to successfully transition into the health industry. The Academy of Biomedical Sciences targets students who enjoy working with people and who have an interest in health-related careers, including Sports Medicine and can lead to EKG and CMAA National Industry certification.
Academy of International Finance
The Academy of International Finance (AOIF) is dedicated to preparing students for the challenges of the real world. It also encourages students to bridge the gap between the classroom and workplace. Students receive a wealth of knowledge in curriculum classes such as Finance and Business Technology, Accounting, Financial Operations, and Personal Financial Planning. Many of the Academy classes lead students to industry certification. These classes are aligned both with the National Academy Foundation (NAF) and with the State of Florida curriculum.
Academy of Education
The Academy of Education at HGHS strives to produce a love for learning through the science of teaching. The Garden Sprouts Preschool is an on-site preschool where the students will have an opportunity to teach children 3-5 years old and observe the learning process. The academy also includes observational hours where the student works closely with other teachers to examine the teaching profession. At completion, students will be able to graduate with the proper certifications that will make jobs in childcare immediately available to them.
Academy of Information Technology
The Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) introduces students to the broad career opportunities in today’s digital workforce and in the process, equips them with the personal, analytical, technical, and communications skills they need to flourish. The Academy of Information Technology operates as a “school within a school” and is part of the high school redesign effort. As a NAF member academy, students can benefit from NAFTrack certification, as well as other industry certifications, including Microsoft Office Users Certification.
Academy of Engineering
The Academy of Engineering (AOE) will introduce students to career opportunities in today’s engineering workforce and in the process, will equip them with the personal, analytical, mathematical, scientific, technical, and communications skills they will need to thrive. A member program of the National Academy Foundation (NAF), the Academy of Engineering will operate as a “school within a school,” which is currently located in only 13 high schools nationwide. The academy recruits high school students to choose engineering and engineering technology careers.
Academy of Law Studies
The mission of the Academy of Law Studies is to produce leaders within our community in core areas relating to the law, crime, and control of lawbreaking. The Academy will teach fundamentals in areas such as origins of crime, understanding the law, and due process in law enforcement as well as the relationship between local and state laws and the United States Constitution. The Academy of Law Studies is ideal for students considering careers as attorneys, paralegals, law enforcement officers, crime scene investigators, judges or other elected officials. AOLS students study many areas of law, including civil, criminal, juvenile, constitutional, and consumer law.
